Stuart Hendley - Golf | United States

Stuart Hendley

Beating Life's Par. In 1983, shortly after being named top junior golfer in the United States by Golf Digest and earning the Junior World title, Stuart Hendley was diagnosed with a rare, usually fatal type of bone cancer. He was given only a 50-50 chance of surviving three more years. Then, after beginning high doses of chemotherapy, Stuart contracted hepatitis, required bone graft surgery and had to spend 11 months hobbling on crutches. Things weren't going well for him. Yet there was no keeping Stuart down. After 32 months of treatments and rehabilitation, he was back on the links as a member of the record-setting University of Houston golf team. And in 1987, he embarked on his career as a professional golfer. Stuart has since competed on virtually every professional golf tour in the world, playing in 30 countries with 18 professional wins to date. Some of his wins include The Canadian Tour's Manitoba Open in 1989, Tournament Players Championship in 1992, Canadian PGA Championship in 1994, and the Alberta Open in 2003. He has performed his various golf/speaking skills and services at approximately 450 corporate/charity golf events around the world. He currently coaches approximately 20 top juniors, college players and professionals around North America. He will continue competing and will soon have his own golf academy in Midland, TX. Nope'there's just no keeping Stuart down.
