Pete Hammond - South Pole Challenge | United Kingdom
As experienced expeditionists, Tess and teammate Pete Hammond are attempting the South Pole Challenge. Three months of trekking through temperatures as low as -80 degrees Fahrenheit and wind speeds as high as 100mph mean that the team will have to be prepared in both fitness and nutrition. Some of their astounding results include: 1998 Climb to the point furthest from the center of the Earth, Mt. Chimborazo in Ecuador, 1999/2000 Climb to the point nearest the sun at the Millennium turn, Mt. Aucanquilcha on the Chile/Bolivian border, 2001 Trek partly up Sacred Mountains in Tibet, Mt. Kailash, Mt. Shishapangma and Mt. Everest, 2003 Ran up the world's tallest mountain, Mauna Kea in Hawaii, 2005 Did the walk of Camino de Santiago, 550 miles over the Pyrenees and Spain, 2006 Skied with pulks in part to the Magnetic North Pole-The top of the world, 2008 Walked 630 miles South West Coast Path, Britain's longest trail, carrying tent, sleeping bags, etc. in 28 days and 2009 Completed the South Pole Challenge-considerably noticeable is the fact that they were the oldest contestants to complete the race!
