Michael Frater

In summer, 2008, Jamaican runners stunned millions of viewers around the world who were watching the Beijing Olympics. The young athletes from this small Caribbean nation triumphed in a number of the most highly anticipated running events. Among those new heroes of the track world was Michael Frater, a member of the gold-medalist 4x100-meter relay team which set new Olympic and world records. In recognition of this towering achievement, he and his teammates were honored in a nation-wide homecoming celebration that culminated with their being awarded the Jamaican Order of Distinction. In addition, Michael was inducted into the Boyd Anderson Ring of Honor. Now a major figure in the sprinting world, Michael won a silver medal at the 2005 World Championships and a gold at the 2003 Pan American Games. This speedster now lives in Fort Lauderdale, where he hopes to study law and someday become a sports agent or coach.
