At just 23 years of age his sporting accomplishments are more representative of an athlete many years his senior. Coming off a gold medal win in the medley relay at the Beijing Olympics Matt was hoping for a big year and more than big it has been. In April Matt won a gold, two silver and a bronze at the International Paralympic Australian Open Swimming Championships. These outstanding results qualified him for a place in Australia's team for the 2010 world championships, held in Holland. July was another great month seeing him win 4 gold medals and 1 silver at the Australian Short Course Swimming Championships. Matthew, now a World Champion, went on to win 6 medals at the World Championships held recently, including gold in the 4x100m freestyle and medley relays, silver in both the 100m breastroke and freestyle and bronze in the 50m butterfly 200m individual medley. These fantastic results led to a recent feature article in the Manly Daily detailing both Matthew’s unbelievable sporting achievements and extraordinary inspirational personal life.
