Lisa Franks - Basketball | Canada
Wheelchair Olympian
Lisa Franks is a former wheelchair racer who has decided to focus her efforts on basketball. Competing as a member of the Canadian wheelchair racing team from 1999 through 2005, she won gold medals in the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney and 2004 in Athens. In 2004 she had the kind of season athletes dream about, she didn't lose a race all season and set world records in the 100-, 200-, 400-, 800-, 1500- and 5000-meters as well as the marathon. Since switching to basketball she has been a member of the silver medal winning Canadian team at the 2007 Para PanAm games in Brazil and the gold medal winning team at the Friendship Games in Osaka, Japan. A mechanical engineer, Lisa still finds time to train six days a week. That training paid off when her wheelchair basketball team placed fifth in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.
