Jack Howell - Baseball | United States
Jack Howell was named the most valuable player in Japan's Central League in 1992 after leading the Yakult Swallows to their first pennant in 14 years. That year, Jack won the Japan league batting and home run titles and was the MVP of Japan Professional Baseball. He also enjoyed one of his finest seasons in 1992, leading the league with a .331 average, belting 38 home runs and receiving a Diamond Glove award as the Central League's top third baseman. Jack played in two World Series with the Swallows, and in 1993 they were the World Series champions. He later played with the Yomiuri Giants. In four seasons in Japan, Jack compiled a .291 average with 100 home runs and 272 RBI. Before -- and after -- his Japanese baseball career he played a total of 11 years in Major League Baseball with the Padres, Angels and Astros. Jack is now in his 8th year with the Arizona Diamondbacks as the Minor League Field Coordinator/Director of Instruction.
