George Mattos - Track & Field | United States
Vaulting to New Heights. While it's been 50 years since George Mattos retired from Olympic-level pole-vaulting, he continues to strive for new, ever-higher goals of many kinds. George is nearly as fit today as he was when he competed in the 1952 and 1956 Olympics, where he directly challenged two-time Olympic gold medalist and first Wheaties box cover athlete Bob Richards. In 1953, George was both U.S. pole vault champion and ranked 2nd worldwide. He now lives in Oregon and actively participates in tennis year-round and downhill skiing in the winter. He also walks briskly for about 40 minutes a day, and does daily series of sit-ups, pull-ups and push-ups. A college music professor for 30 years, George explains that, "During my teaching career, it was sheer joy to introduce thousands of people to the wonderful world of music. I retired in 1989. Now, however, I again have the chance to introduce people to another wonderful world of glyconutrients! They have worked so well for me that I am eager and honored to help tell the world about them." That's George Mattos -- consistently reaching a little higher and always welcoming new chances to excel.
